Estonian President Urges Europe to Prepare for Uncertain Outcomes in Ukraine War
Speaking alongside Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Karis emphasized that Europe should be prepared for “every development” in ongoing efforts to reach peace in Ukraine. He stressed that European countries need to remain actively involved in discussions about their own security and participate from a position of strength to help ensure a settlement that is both fair and durable.
Karis noted that there has been little meaningful progress in diplomatic efforts aimed at ending Russia’s war in Ukraine, arguing that the situation continues to demand sustained attention from European governments.
He also underscored that the conflict remains a central issue for European security architecture and said support for Ukraine should remain steady despite other international challenges drawing attention elsewhere.
The Estonian president additionally highlighted the importance of deeper regional coordination in defense and security policy, particularly among Nordic and Baltic states. He pointed out that Estonia and Finland share a closely linked strategic environment, reinforcing the need for ongoing cooperation in addressing shared security concerns.
